The Jobs Being Prioritized in Kelowna Under Francophone Pathway

Kelowna, British Columbia's thriving Okanagan Valley hub, has been designated as a participating community in Canada's Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (FCIP) — and the city is actively recruiting French-speaking workers across a range of priority sectors. With its growing tech sector, expanding healthcare system, and booming agriculture industry, Kelowna presents a compelling destination for Francophone immigrants seeking a high quality of life outside Canada's major urban centres.

About the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot in Kelowna The FCIP selects communities across Canada — outside of Quebec — that have significant French-speaking populations or aspirations to build Francophone communities. These communities work directly with employers and IRCC to recruit French-speaking immigrants for specific roles.

Kelowna was selected due to its existing Francophone cultural organizations, strong economic growth, and demonstrated employer demand for workers who can serve Francophone clients in healthcare, education, and hospitality sectors.

Priority Occupations in Kelowna Under the Kelowna FCIP designation, the following sectors and occupations are currently receiving the highest priority:

• Healthcare: Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, personal support workers, medical office assistants • Technology: Software developers, data analysts, IT support specialists • Agriculture and agri-food: Agricultural workers, winery operations staff, food processing technicians • Hospitality and tourism: Bilingual hotel staff, tour guides, culinary professionals • Education: French-language teachers, educational assistants

Employers in these sectors who are registered with the FCIP can facilitate immigration for French-speaking candidates more quickly than through standard immigration channels.

How to Apply Through the Kelowna FCIP Candidates interested in the Kelowna FCIP pathway must: 1. Identify a registered employer in Kelowna who is participating in the FCIP 2. Secure a full-time, indeterminate job offer from that employer 3. Meet the French language requirements (minimum CLB 7 for TEER 0–1; CLB 5 for TEER 2–3) 4. Meet the educational requirements for the position 5. Submit an Expression of Interest through the FCIP community portal 6. Obtain a community recommendation from Kelowna's designated FCIP representative

Once a community recommendation is obtained, candidates apply directly to IRCC for permanent residence.

Life in Kelowna for Francophone Immigrants Kelowna is one of Canada's fastest-growing cities, offering a Mediterranean-like climate (by Canadian standards), world-class wineries, outdoor recreation, and an increasingly diverse cultural scene. The city has a small but growing Francophone community supported by local cultural organizations and French-language educational options.

Housing prices, while higher than many Prairie cities, remain substantially more affordable than Vancouver, which is only a four-hour drive away. The combination of urban amenities, natural surroundings, and strong employment growth makes Kelowna an excellent destination for families and young professionals alike.
